What Is Forex Trading?

The Foreign Exchange Market was formed with the abandonment of the Bretton Woods Accord in 1971. Along with that the system of universal fixed exchange rates was dismantled.

The name FOREX (also commonly referred to as FX) is an abbreviation of the words Foreign Exchange.

It is the largest financial market in the world turning over an estimated 1.7 trillion dollars every day. This incredible turnover surpasses the combined daily turnover of all the world’s stock markets.

Trading the Forex market is very attractive because of it’s liquidity along with the fact that it is open 24 hours per day.

Unlike other financial instruments that can be traded, the FX market does not have a fixed exchange (like the ASX or the NYSE for example).

Trading is essentially done via banks, brokers, dealers, financial institutions and private individuals.

Because of advancements in technology, and especially the World Wide Web, using high security encoding technology, trading can be done on-line.

This has opened up enormous opportunities for the private investor to access the Fx market with considerable ease.

Previously significant deposits ($1,000,000) were required by brokers for trading purposes, but this is no longer the case, with trading deposits now being extremely affordable.

Private Traders can place and monitor their trades from wherever in the world as long as they have access to a computer and sometimes just a mobile phone.

Forex trading is an attractive form of trading for the following reasons:

* 24-hour, 5 days a week with continuous access to global dealers

* An enormous liquid market making it easy to exchange most currencies

* Highly volatile market providing opportunities to profit significantly.

* The ability to control exposure to risk.
