Effects of Exchange Rate on Stock Market

Effects of Exchange Rate on Stock Market

$106.74

This text was originally submited as a bachelor thesis. It examines whether currency exchange rate changes play any role in determination of stock market volatility in the EUs New Member states. Using the daily data of six Central and Eastern European countries, we run a GARCH model including the exchange rate variable into the volatility equation. Using a TARCH model we also examine whether the magnitude of stock market volatility depends on the direction of last innovation. The results suggest that an exchange rate depreciation will boost stock market volatility in Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, whereas the same applies for currency appreciation in Romania. The various results for various countries are in line with the previous research. Econometric Modelling of Stock Market Intraday Activity

Econometric Modelling of Stock Market Intraday Activity

$348.89

The recent widespread availability of intraday tickbytick databases for stocks, options and currencies has had an important impact on research in applied financial econometrics and market microstructure. Econometric Modelling of Stock Market Intraday Activity focuses on the econometric modelling of intraday tickbytick transaction data (trades and quote) for stock traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Recent quantitative modelling tools such as intraday duration models and GARCH modes are presented. A survey of trading mechanisms in financial markets and a review of market microstructure issues is also included, which allows to gain a better understanding of the motivation underlying the use of the quantitative models. In the empirical applications, the link is made with the models of the market microstructure literature that have proposed an explicit treatment of time in the trading process. Other empirical applications deal with the modelling of intraday volatility and intraday ValueatRisk. Although the models are applied to data for stock traded on the NYSE, they are not specific to this exchange and could be used to analyze other existing trading mechanisms. Accordingly, this book should be of interest to academics and graduate students involved in empirical finance and applied econometrics, regulators working for exchanges, and practitioners in banks or brokerage firms. Behavior of the Indian Stock Market

Behavior of the Indian Stock Market

The concept of Efficient Markets took shape in the seventies explaining the behavior of stock market prices. For the stock market to perform its role of allocating capital resources in an economy successfully, it should be able to process information efficiently. This is seen as the markets ability to incorporate all relevant information quickly and accurately into its prices. This book examines the arguments behind the efficient markets hypothesis and within this context examines the behavior of the Indian stock market. The book throws information on issues such as identifying structural changes in price movements; nature of statistical distribution of returns; market anomalies and the market behavior to policy announcements. The book is expected to be useful for anyone interested in stock market behavior. It will also interest researchers interested in nonparametric statistics. Stock Market Integration

Stock Market Integration

$113.11

Within March 5th 2008 and April 3rd 2009, the All Share index of the Nigerian Stock Exchange dropped by 69.94. The decline (though at varying levels) was also witnessed among emerging and developed stock markets. While various factors could be responsible for the performance observed, this study examined the role of selected emerging and developed stock markets on the performance of the Nigerian stock exchange. The philosophy of the study is premised on the increasing linkage of financial markets across the globe and the likely implication of such interdependence on their performance. Within the context of financial crisis, the major findings from the study were in two folds: first, the Nigerian stock exchange was more integrated to the developed stock markets during the crisis period hence, declining performance observed during the period studied in the Nigerian stock market, can be attributed to the financial crisis. Lastly, contrary to the role that counter cyclical policies are expected to play in stabilizing business circles, the Nigerian stock market was more responsive to oil market policy adjustments than to the monetary policy actions during the financial crisis. With the financial crisis of 200708, the old issue of financegrowth nexus is resurrected. The crisis has revealed once again how a structurally flawed global financial system under the New Financial Architecture might prove to be dangerous for the rest of the economy. At this crucial juncture, thus, inquiries about the functioning of the global financial markets are likely to be invoked. This book while exploring this issue concentrates on the global stock market. Specifically, it is a study into the global market dynamics, their intrinsic natures, common trends and their dynamic interlinkages during the stock market crisis of 2007 2008 and the recent recovery period that has started from March 2009. It inquires whether and how the dynamics and interlinkages of a market change as it moves closer to a peak, falls from it and recovers. Finally it seeks to explore how the intrinsic nature of the stock market could be described? Is it really an order disguised as disorder? Ever since it was founded, Chinas stock market has experienced a cycle of boom and bust. Some investors earn money from it, while many others suffer enormous losses. In recent years, the overall performance of Chinas stock market has been like a roller coaster. The entire stock market is full of speculation. Among all the factors related to this book, we decided to pay special attention to the impact of QFII (Qualified Foreign Institution Investor) trading in the market, because a large number of foreign investments can accelerate the development of the capital market. However, the impact of the QFII system on the host country is still a topic of debate among scholars. As a result, we focus on quantitative methods to analyze its impact. Methods for estimating the log likelihood function and the filtered values of the timevarying volatilities and correlations are also provided. The key part of this book is focused on the most commonly used GARCH(1,1) model in terms of its goodnessoffit and forecasting accuracy. we chose the Chinese market as the object of this study, in view of its special status of the Chinese market within the world economy. Bucket Shop (Stock Market)

Bucket Shop (Stock Market)

$74.88

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Bucket shop is a brokerage firm that books (i.e., takes the opposite side of) retail customer orders without actually having them executed on an exchange. These brokerages are also often called boiler rooms. The term is a defined term under the criminal law of many states in the United States which make it a crime to operate a bucket shop. Typically the criminal law definition refers to an operation in which the customer is sold what is supposed to be a derivative interest in a security or commodity future, but there is no transaction made on any exchange. The transaction goes in the bucket and is never executed. Without an actual underlying transaction, the customer is betting against the bucket shop operator, not participating in the market. Alternatively, the bucket shop operator literally plays the bank, as in a gambling house, against the customer. Scholary Paper aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Wirtschaft Investition und Finanzierung, einseitig bedruckt, Note: 1,3, European Business School Internationale Universit t Schlo Reichartshausen OestrichWinkel, Veranstaltung: Asset Management Seminar, 34 Eintragungen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Englisch, Abstract: Although the model is widely accepted and practically used as explained above, it is nevertheless far from being perfect as outlined in its record of empirical studies.9 Generally criticized is on the one hand that the underlying assumptions of the model are very theoretical and thus not able to illustrate reality and on the other one that there are problems in implementing wellfounded tests of the model relating to the choice of the right market portfolio.10 But, the success of the CAPM will remain as long as there is no other model which offers as …] powerful and intuitively pleasing predictions about how to measure risk and the relation between risk and return. 11 The objective of this study is to empirically test the CAPM on the German stock market. Since most of the empirical studies that have been made in the past focus on the U.S. stock market, this paper will try to find out if the results of these U.S. empirical studies can also be shown on the German stock market. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to analyze the relationship between risk and return on the German stock market to find out whether the CAPM holds. The purpose of this study is to examine the stock returns variation to specific macroeconomic and industry variables by applying multifactor model. The model consists of macroeconomic and industry variables. The study attempts to determine which, if any, of the macroeconomic and industry variables are of use in explaining the variability of stock returns of Pakistani Industries. The firms relating to 09 different sectors are selected for this study on the basis of data availability, profitability and performance on the Karachi Stock Exchange 100 index. Descriptive statistics performed for the temporal properties of the data and Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) test applied to find out the data stationarity. GARCH model used to analyze the risk and returns relationship. The tests applied on the stock returns of each firm of the industry and on the data set of the entire industry as well to generalize the results. The results reveal that market return is mainly responsible for the stock returns variation, however the inclusion of other macroeconomic and industry related variables has added additional explanatory power in describing the stock returns variation.
